In fact there is. Bing offers a free automated (no human operator) directory assistance. No word on if this was a response to Google dropping their free 411 service, which they offered from 2008 to 2010. But it does kind off make me laugh when I think about all the heat Bing took earlier this year for supposedly “copying Google’s results“.
Anyway, to use Bing’s service you will need to dial 1-800-246-4411 (stands for 1800-Bing-411). Supposedly, they will help you find local businesses, lookup movie times, find weather and traffic reports even hear turn-by-turn directions which is pretty cool. Here is a link to more on the service:

I just heard that BING 411 will no longer be available to provide phone numbers as of June 1. Is there another phone number I can use to get free directory assistance on my cell phone?
Yes, it looks like Bing has gone the way of Google and stopped providing their free 411 directory service. I know this may be a disappointment to a lot of people but it seems both Google and Bing have been watching smart phone adoption and decided that directory assistance is better served from an app or search engine then a voice telephone call.
I for one, like the call in numbers and it sounds like you might too. For us there is still hope, a company called Jingle Networks provides a free call in 411 service. To use it you need to dial 1800-373-3411 (Stands for 1800-FREE-411). Now, be prepared to listen to a 20 second advertisement before you are able to access the directory service.
Let me know if this works for you and what you think of it compared to Bing’s 411.
