I am very sorry to hear about your friend. First off, we must advise, if your friend is in serious need of medication attention you should first contact the authorities before you attempt to do anything on your own.
Now, as to your question, we have an earlier post about tracking a missing person with their cell phone here. You might want to give it a read. That said, since it is your understanding that this person’s phone is not equipped with a GPS locator, this post may not help you as much as it is the only way (we are aware of) for civilian non-family members to track someone via a cell phone.
